Student Review

Studying Wing Chun with Sifu Brian Spiegel's Wing Chun Kung Fu Academy is definitely not for everyone, and I consider that to be a good thing. Currently Sifu
teaches at his home to a small but dedicated group of adult students. The space is limited and may seem a bit chaotic when compared to other martial art "schools".
Then again, if you should ever have a real-life altercation, it probably won't take place on polished wood, or padded carpet. If you're seeking weight loss, or to
quickly learn "self defense" scenarios, you'll want to look elsewhere.

In terms of instruction, the environment is one that is incumbent on the student to put forth the initiative to practice, and progress on their own. Unlike many
schools, there will be nobody to tell you what to do and when to do it, training is on an individual level, there is no set regimen, very few drills, and no counting or
yelling of commands. However, none of this should be interpreted as lack of instruction; to the contrary Sifu gives continual guidance to each student on an
individual basis as well as group commentary and demonstration. In fact, I don't think Sifu feels it necessary to hold back information or instruction, like some
instructors or schools. He and his entire group of students clearly have a great deal of passion for the art of Wing Chun and all enjoy sharing knowledge, discussing
the various concepts of Wing Chun, combat, and self defense. It should be noted, Sifu Brian brings a real-world approach to his teaching based on his many years of
Wing Chun practice and law enforcement experience.

Of course, whether or not one can absorb and embody all the information Sifu disseminates is another thing; hence the speed at which one learns depends on the
individual, practice, etc.  For those who require a highly structured class and need tests, belts, trophy's or other administration to confirm progress or keep
motivated, this training is not well suited. For a particular few who are self motivated, open minded and willing to patiently learn the art of Wing Chun, I feel the
Tampa Bay Wing Chun Kung Fu Academye is a perfect environment. I don't think Sifu Brian Spiegel is interested in formulating a class that appeals to the masses
and I for one greatly appreciate that.
